he is a frequent "gouden kabouter" award winner, the gouden kabouters are THE most prestigious amsterdam nightlife awards.
he has won in fabulous categories as: best new clubnight, best dj, most sexy dj (TWICE!!!) and we would like to ad that he should get his own category: Best BITE!

lets just say that when we asked KADENZA (who is of the legendary I LOVE PARTIES of CAMERA CLUB and has played with dj and producer gods like SEBASTIEN LEGER) and CLUB NEW AMSTERDAM regular DR. SATURDAY MAY 16TH is one that makes us so happy and proud:

Yes, we had MEL MERIO as a dj last january, and yes, CHRISTOPHER JUST played with us in february, but this saturday they will honour us with a duo set!!! back from the big apple straight into the rote bar....

CHRISTOPHER JUST is one of the giants of electro. He is the producer of classic electronic music chart hits like: "i´m a disco dancer" (fatboy slim, dave clarke & dj hell remixes), "popper" (kitsune records) and the german top ten hit "domino dancing" with mel merio.
 
Christopher has performed with artists like justice, scissor sisters, paul van dyke, the prodigy, moby, richie hawtin, trentemoller, debbie harry and miss kitten, and is just as famous for his unique sound as a dj as he is as a producer.

his new recordings, a cooperation with mel merio, as  well as his own productions will be released on the ULTRA label (larry tee) this year.

MEL MERIO, who has swapped vienna a year ago for new york and has taken over the big apple by storm with, amongst other things, her "mels world" parties and her work for the new album, will join christopher just and the first lady on the decks... her dj set in january for club new amsterdam was one of the finest we heard this season. so expect another high class, high quality, high fidelity mix of the hottest and grooviest electro, disco and mash ups!

we will be dancing all night for sure, so come dance with us...

Tanz Baby! are David & Mu, the "Great Pretenders" of Vienna's music scene.

DJ.Scott aka Andreas Kinzl (member of Aromabar/Telemark &  Club Ocsid Funk Allstar-Team):

Working in the Viennese Clubscene since 1989 Andreas Kinzl aka DJ Scott contributed to the town’s unique clubsound flavour by consequently collecting and spinning old and modern Soul, Funk, Afro, Latin- and Brasil-records. His residences at EarthPower, Transglobal, Morgenrot, AmbientSunset, Soul Sugar, Dub Club and Hot Sauce are legendary going down in a storm and hypnotising the audiences. Early 1996 he started working on his own productions experimenting in a small studio in the outskirts of Vienna. It was not long after that he founded AROMABAR co-producing with Roland Hackl and Karin Steger. Besides that touring Aromabar live, djing in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Turkey, Netherlands, Russia, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland,  spinning in radio shows for various stations in Germany and Austria kept him busy. Right now he is regularly spinning at Club Ocsid & Club Tik Tak which are recently two retro and contemporary danceclubs based in Vienna. At the moment he´s working on Aromabar´s new album and of course some new Telemark stuff is finished and will be released very soon.

oh, a very very special edition of "die holländer komme!!" is awaiting us. this Saturday, 18th of april, we have the honour to once more bring to you the fabulous my little soundsystem from amsterdam. she is our favourite female dj from the dutch capital! many of you may have seen her last year at planetarium during our legendary top ten night, and now she is back, with more than 10 records, namely with a whole set! we are sooo looking forward to hearing her hit the decks again.

URSULA 1000 is the alter ego of Brooklyn, New York based producer/DJ Alex Gimeno. His albums and mix sessions have taken on a broad scope of retro tinged spy grooves, bumping latin disco funk, hints of post punk electro go go, sleazy glam rock…And he never stops evolving.

You can hear it in his remixes for the likes of Quincy Jones, Felix Da Housecat, The Faint, Fort Knox Five to a slew of television remodels for themes to Sesame Street, The Powerpuff Girls, The Incredibles and Yo Gabba Gabba. it is time that spring arrives! this dutch winter/summer/autumn/fall weather which has been hitting vienna for the past weeks will just not do. We love the netherlands and amsterdam too, but the one thing we dont like is rain.

so.. to get into a more sunny mood, we have decided to welcome once again to our fine little club the magnificent miss pinie wang (myyy bitch club)! we love her fine selection of electro remixes and we love her old school disco classics. Pinie will hit the decks in an unnerving back to back session with the first lady herself!

For those of you who have seen them this summer with us at planetarium, we need to say no more... for those of you who didnt: here is your chance to witness these turntable daredevils yourself. There is a reason these chaps were voted best dutch djs in 2007. the reason is quite simple: they are the best that holland has to offer djwise.

expect them to play loads of their own kraak en smaak hits, amidst funky, electro, disco and other of the uttermost cool stuff.

Heineken, Van Gogh, Kraak & Smaak. The three most famous things to come out of Holland. Ever. In that order. Ok so maybe a bit of an exaggeration but the last three years have been an incredible ride for the band considered to be Holland’s hottest live act and as they release their second album things seem set to get even crazier.

Rewind a couple of years and we find three dutch guys plotting world domination from their hometown of Leiden. Since releasing their debut album Boogie Angst they have played over 200 live band gigs, they’ve been hailed by I-DJ as a “Must see live band” they’ve supported the stadium-rocking Faithless on their European tour and played some of the most prestigious gigs in the USA including Coachella Festival, SXSW Festival, the Miami Winter Music Conference as well as playing headline sell-out gigs on the West and East Coast on their last tour.

Although Kraak & Smaak originally started out as a studio project for the founder members Oscar De Jong, Mark Kneppers & Wim Plug it quickly became one of the hottest live and DJ properties in dance music. The live band has the addition of Ro Krom – drummer & vocalist, Rose – vocalist and Marc on the bass guitar. Coupled with the keyboards, FX and percussion played by the band themselves it’s a formidable slice of funk on the floor with the epic moments provided by K&S’s more leftfield output. For DJ sets band member DJ Sargon, Mark and Wim are the main spinners capable of laying down an eclectic sound that makes them as happy spinning in the tiny basement of a deep funk night as it does dropping huge riffs to festival crowds.

In the UK, the boys have rocked shows for Club nights like AIR, Fingerlickin’ and Chew The Fat and Breakspoll For this summer they have Glastonbury, Bloom, Lovebox and Big Chill festivals lined up in the UK as well as Sziget and 10 days Off amongst others in Europe.

When it came out, their debut album Boogie Angst stood out because it sounded like nothing else around. The K&S brand of future funk led to their singles being supported by the cream of Radio 1. Annie Nightingale was the first to support the band and invited K&S to record a guestmix for her show. Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Rob Da Bank also came to the party with Rob even licensing their first single Money in the Bag for his Blue Room compilation CD. Their breaking sound led to a whole host of requests for remixes with Jamiroquai at the front of the queue as well as Mark Rae (a particular beauty of a mix that’s big with the jazz heads) Max Sedgley (who Rob da Bank asked the band to do a mix of), Richard Dorfmeister (whose Kruder&Dorfmeister Sessions album has been an inspiration to the band) and friends and family like Fort Knox Five, Soul of Man and Skeewiff. These remixes were collected onto a double album (they’d been busy) called The Remix Sessions which was released last year.

So after touring the planet in support of their debut album and remixing all their peers and heroes, the time came for the band to start recording their second album. In the early part of 07 they hit the studio for the first sessions with a second burst of recording after the summer festival season.
“The goodwill we got from our first album opened some doors for us” says mark “We wanted to write with the people who are in the band as the core of the album but we also had met some people along the way who had got us excited and it was great that when we contacted them they wanted to work with us. We’ve got a killer track with Ben Westbeech on vocals which is lined up as the first proper single from the new album and another that we wrote with Mark Brydon from Moloko as the second. We’ve got vocal tracks with Rose and Ro in the bank and a killer track with rapper Dudley Perkins from Stones Throw who we’ve had respect for over time”.

“The new album is a bit more grown up than the first album” says Wim “We’ve worked with some of our heroes and that’s had an effect. We still want to write tracks that rock it on a dancefloor but we’ve also done an incredible cinematic track with Carmel who was a famous jazz singer in the 80’s.” “Our dream collaboration is still Thom Yorke from Radiohead though – so if anyone can hook it up we’re ready and waiting” interjects Mark.

“We’ve kept the trademark K&S sound of funk and Fender Rhodes on some of the tracks” says Oscar “but tracks like Plastic People have a tougher edge. It’s a natural result of playing to bigger festival crowds and seeing bands like Faithless tear crowds apart with big dark riffs. We still want to keep the party funk element to our live show but you need those dark ride moments that make it happen for the big crowds. We were really pleased when Sander Kleinenberg licensed an upfront version of one of our new album tracks for his Renaissance compilation. I don’t think that would have happened with Boogie Angst”.

The band are still raving vinyl heads with Mark’s personal collection topping 50,000. He owns two vinyl record stores in Amsterdam and Leiden and is still a firm supporter of the format. Wim is also a vinyl man but studio head Oscar is more of a film buff. “ The track we wrote with Carmel would be perfect for a David Lynch film” says Oscar “and melancholic soundtracks can be a real inspiration for emotional electronic and downtempo music”.

Unlike some of their contemporaries the guys are looking forward to hitting the road with the band again. “I like the simplicity “says Oscar “ there is only one goal - get to the gig - do the gig - do the after party – move on. There’s no complications and you end up in these places you would never visit on holiday. If you go on holiday you go to a beach somewhere but the places we’ve seen we would never have seen if it wasn’t for the band. We’ve already had some massive high points like pulling into LA in our tour bus to play a sell out gig at the El Rey with our name up in the classic American style on the front of the theatre but we’re still a baby band, the best is yet to come – it will be a long time before you hear us moaning about going on tour”.

Kraak & Smaak released their second album Plastic People in April 08. The singles Squeeze Me featuring Ben Westbeech and Plastic People were hits across Europe and was supported by Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale and Trevor Nelson on Radio 1.

so..... the first lady and kadenza were both closely involved with the first cooperation of dutch and viennese dj´s: the vienna weekender in amsterdam and "die holländer komme!!" in vienna, back in the days when kadenza rocked with his legendary "i love" parties. they felt it was time to spin together once more.

meanwhile, in amsterdam, dj rubedo was contemplating on where to spend a nice holiday weekend, and remembered all the good times he had in vienna in the last two years. when he heard that kadenza and the first lady would dj together, he booked a flight, he didnt want to miss out all the fun!

dj samantha freud, better known as DJ Rubedo, who became famous under the name DJ Polak, howmany djnames can one guy carry, well... we think its like fashion: remember the days when brown was the new black.....(his real name by the way is Jacek Rajewski) is one of the most famous and influentiual djs of amsterdams underground scene. He also owns the club "sugar factory" which, since opening three years ago, is still the hottest place in town (remember phil horneman of last week? well, he has his wicked jazz sounds there every sunday to name one of the successes of sugar factory) The many names are in a way also a clear reflection of the dj style of Rubedo: he mixes all possible styles in to one hot magma of dance traxx: Funk, Jazz, Electro, Disco, Latin and Glamrock are spun to a diabolicly hot soundcocktail.

for the newcomers to club new amsterdam (as rubedo has been our guest numerous times in vienna) a bit of info:

Rubedo is the producer of the monthly club night discocult at sugarfactory, where he is resident dj. Discocult is a steaming hot mix of local and international electronic beats. Funk, jazz, electro, disco, latin and glamrock are mixed into a steaming hot melange of new music.

discocult is a dj plattform for local and international turntable artists, to name a few:
Ursula 1000 (USA), Fort Knox Five, Morpheus (former Minimal Compact, Belgium), Pepe Braddock (Parisian DJ and producer of Atavisme), Mr. & Mrs. Cameron (yes, those from Arling & Cameron), Dublex (Pulver Records, Stuttgart) and Malente (Germany).

Rubedo mixes all these stiles, and this saturday, he will do so at rote bar, volkstheater!

Kadenza a.k.a. Alexander Damev has been surrounded by music since his childhood. As a son of musicians (father - conductor / writer, mother - pianist) he discovered his passion for electronic music and DJ'ing in his early twenties. After finishing his Piano studies at the Vienna Conservatory he founded the event agency "High Density Entertainment", based in Vienna. Together with his partners, he has been very successful in organising premium clubnights in Vienna and abroad, featuring cutting edge artists such as DJ Aphrodite, Sébastien Légér, DJ Woody, Waxolutionists, Stereotyp, Megablast, Rodney Hunter and many more. He has been performing as a DJ in major venues in and outside of Austria. His latest project was the relaunch of the legendary “Camera Club” in Vienna featuring outstanding event series such as “I Love”, “Icke Micke” or “Camouflage Club”, just to name a few.

The first time we hear from Wicked Jazz Sounds (WJS) is in 1998 in the
format of a local radioshow hosted by Phil Horneman. A year later he starts
throwing parties under the WJS banner at different bars in Amsterdam. His sound is an unique mix of Wicked Jazz Sounds. What are those? You may ask yourself. well... these sounds can build up from down-tempo background music to an up-tempo, floor filling, dance event. The wicked jazz style will make you join a futuristic journey through jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, broken-beat, house, drum & bass and beyond… always mixed with live performances.

Phil Horneman of WJS is best known for the weekly Sunday clubnight in the
Amsterdam Sugar Factory, where the cues are longer than the whole lijnbaansgracht, and of course for the 4 volumes of the CD
compilations of the same name. With his Wicked jazz sounds collective he has performed across the country in all the major clubs like Paradiso, Melkweg, and Panama. They had successful shows at prestigious festivals like North Sea Jazz , Lowlands, Eurosonic/Noorderslag, Loveland Festival,
Mysteryland and many more. One of those mores: club new amsterdam this saturday at rote bar, volkstheater! We are very happy and proud to welcome Phil Horneman to our sweet little place.

and... we have stoney the flute live on stage with us. Before Stoney the Flute became successful in the Vienna Electronic Scene, he studied classical flute at a Vienna Music school and Jazz flute at the Gustav Mahler Konservatorium in Vienna. Getting to know and love the Vienna Electronic Scene he started working in the studio with notable label artists like Shanti-Roots, Stefan Obermaier (Vienna Scientist), Rodney Hunter (G-Stone) and Karl Möstl, to name a few, and performed Solo in the Club Scene of Vienna by improvising over numerous Dj..s (Scheibosan, Jürgen Drimal, Bionic Kid, Bujaka, Groovebox, Clubcruise and the illustrious URSULA 1000). Ever since, he’s been working on a variety of projects in the studio and live on stage in Clubs and on Festivals, spreading jazz flute vibes all over Europe to spread the spirit of ‘groove-edge’ Funk. And certainly he is still touring the Clubs playing the flute like hell to get the crowd moving!
